Students will design an information service for use on a mobile phone.
Design issues: Small screen, navigation, jumping highlight, user research, personas, scenarios. Deliverables: Presentation of design process, Flash LE executable that runs on phone, process documents, and labeled CD with
design deliverables. Project - A2 Mobile information service

We chose taxi cab drivers and the goal of delivering homeopathic health information to them via their mobile phones. The combination of ideal between alternative medicine and cab drivers seemed like a challenge as it is an audience you would unlikely associate with the other.

Final:

The first pass was really more about trying to understand how many needs could we address with the application. Could we in fact try and solve all the health problems that are encountered by cab drivers and if so, what does that being to look like and how would they begin to navigate through this process. While the Application map may not have been settled on to precisely yet, the idea of serving these categorical types of information was at the forefront of the first pass.

The second pass expanded the functionality of the application overall, but perhaps also simultaneously complicating the navigation of the application in a successful way. We had begun to also think about the nature of the device in which the application would live in. Ultimately the device we settled on begun to make this second pass seem unrealistic, as there were far too many options and far too many interactions to make this app prove successful.

By the third pass we had reexamined our persona and established an app that focused more on the immediate needs of cab drivers. A smaller set of feature allowed for more richness in each feature and ultimately a quicker interaction and a faster read. Overall a narrowed scope improved usability and focus of overall application.Project - A2 Mobile information service

Concepts:

Developing information needs for a specific group is always a challenge, not only because you are first triggering an idea based on an assumption that you have a problem identifies, but because in most cases. these assumptions will be challenged head on and will almost always shift dramatically by the end of the project. We chose to begin our project by selecting out audience and area of mobile information we wanted to deliver.
